SGPET/LMC EDUCATION NEWS/UPDATE BOARD 

• Sessional/Locum GP Lunchtime Session: A time to share learning from interesting cases - (Remote via MS Teams) 9th May 13.00-13.45

• The South Somerset Education Evening is on the 21st May and we are pleased to have Catherine Cassell and Karen Baker from the diabetes recovery programme attending. They will be passing on the knowledge they have gained from working with practices to improve their diabetes care, invaluable to us all in times of rising numbers and complexity of patients with diabetes. The evening is at the Prince of Wales on Ham Hill and there will be food provided.

• NHSE Funding Available for IP/NMP & GPN Fundamentals for 2024-25: NHS England has agreed to reimburse the tuition fees for 8 places on an Independent/Supplementary (NMP) Prescribing course and 8 places for Nurses to access a GPN Fundamentals Programme.
  To take advantage of this opportunity please email Linda.Bickerton1@nhs.net, stating the practice name, applicant name, email address and programme details before applying for the course. Funding will be allocated on a ‘first come first served’ basis and practices will be notified by the Training Hub if funds have been approved and the next steps. Approved applicants must apply directly to the University of their choice and secure a place by 31st May 2024.

• Leadership Education Opportunity for Lead Practice and PCN Nurses - Somerset Training Hub has funding available to support Lead Practice and PCN Nurses who are keen to develop their leadership ability and expand their skills to support the recruitment/retention of nurses within their practice/PCN. Practice Nurses aspiring to a leadership role can also apply for funds.

  The suite of courses is available to choose from here . As well as providing funds to pay for the course fees in full, additional funds will be paid to cover some overtime or backfill costs. The total amount that will be reimbursed to the practice is included on the spreadsheet. Funds will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

  The Request Form in should be completed in full (including practice bank account details) and submitted to somersetlmc.sth.office@nhs.net to request funding. Practices will be responsible for booking and paying for the courses requested. It is recommended to wait until funding is confirmed before booking the course. Practices must respond to a short questionnaire in 6-12 months regarding the use of the funds. Closing date for applications will be 31st May 2024 or earlier if all funds available are committed prior to this date.

Affina Organisation Development (AOD) are hosting a 1-hour webinar on 4th July - 9.30 to 10.30 to explore Diversity and inclusion through a team lens with Banji Adewumi, MBE, Director of EDI at the University of Greenwich. • SW End of Life Network Connections - For anyone involved in End of Life Care the link below (circulated by the South West Regional Training Hub team) provides a number of useful resources and connectivity opportunities that may be of interest.

• New Educational supervisor training for pharmacy the workforce - NHS England are pleased to announce additional, fully funded educational supervision training for those supervising foundation trainee pharmacists. This training will ensure those involved in educational supervision, including Designated Supervisors (DSs), and Designated Prescribing Practitioners (DPPs), are confident to provide support and developmental aid to foundation trainee pharmacists across all sectors. This training offer provides 250 places exclusively for prospective DPPs, in addition to 250 places for other educational supervisors, including DSs, (previously known as pre-reg tutors).

• South West Community Nursing & GPN Research & Innovation Conference - There is a Community & Primary Care Research and Innovation Conference in the South West on Wednesday 26th June, 10am - 4pm. This conference is aimed at nurses working outside of the hospital across the region, to help them get more involved in research. It can be nurses who know nothing about research and want to know more or nurse that have little research experience. The link to book a place is on the flyer, and if you know anyone who wants to present a poster at the conference, they can email Jennifer.charlewood@nhs.net for more information.
