We are passionate about education and the impact it has on the whole primary care team. We have with a variety of experience and backgrounds. We support people in developing their education and facilitation skills, whether they are starting from scratch or have years of experience. • Digital Rectal Examination (DRE) - Free Lunchtime Training Sessions Next date 15th July

• CPD FUNDING FOR 2022-23 – For attention of all Practice Managers and PCN Managers

  Health Education England (HEE) have allocated the same CPD funding as last year (£333 per person ) for all Nurses, qualified Nursing Associates and AHPs. To access funding, each practice must, using either the attached spreadsheet or own plan, send a summary of their CPD requirements, to their PCN Manager. The PCN Managers are then requested to prioritise plans into ONE plan by completing the spreadsheet (a requirement of HEE), and send that plan to the Training Hub by 26th July 2022. • UWE MODULES - There has been an issue for some practices trying to access UWE modules for the past 2 years. Demand has outstripped their capacity. The Training Hub has approached UWE and they have agreed to allocate a specific number of certain modules to primary care over 2022-2024 providing STH pays for them in advance under a single purchase order. To do this we have to have agreement from PCNs to withhold some of the CPD allocated funds. If you wish STH to do this on your behalf please confirm when you submit your plans. You are of course able to use funding to access other HEI modules and education providers or e-learning or for in-house training etc. This is an offer purely if UWE is your preferred provider. There is still no guarantee the required modules will be available (PACR is full until Aug 2023) but the offer is there if you would like STH to take this forward. Further detailed information regarding which modules are available will be available shortly and adjustments can be made to your plans later, so please continue to complete your requests by the deadline HEE have set as 31st July for outline plans.  For more information please email: carol.hobbs4@nhs.net

• Details of the next Friday Forum, Fri 15 July Care 9.30 – 11.30 - 15 July – Certificates in Primary Care  From July, new legislation will allow nurses, occupational therapists, pharmacists, and physiotherapists to legally certify fit notes, in addition to doctors who are currently the only profession able to do so. This workshop will discuss some of the challenges and pitfalls to be aware of when issuing fit notes.   Also, have you ever been on the receiving end of a request for a letter that you couldn’t quite believe (e.g. “can I have a letter for nursery to say my son can go outside without a coat on”? That’s a real request by the way …) We will discuss what our professional obligations are and how to handle these requests for letters in a professional but practical way.  The session will be facilitated by Dr Andy Eaton (Somerset Training Hub Fellow and SHS Education and Training Lead)  To register interest / book a place please email ellen.welch2@nhs.net

• Did you know that every 1mmol/L reduction in low-density lipoproteins (LDL) cholesterol reduces risk of a CVD event by 25%?  Or that almost 80% of patient on Lipid Lowering Therapies fail to reach an LDL-C goal of <1.8mmol/L  NICE have recently updated their guidelines on lipid management. To help you understand the implications of the guidelines, the South West Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) are hosting a lipid management pathway webinar from 0930-1230 on 21st July 2022.
