• Across Somerset’s health and social care, we have 3 places available for Developing Aspirant Leadership programme for Ethnic minority Nurses and Midwifes 2024-2025. This is an excellent opportunity for further development. If you or someone in your team is eligible and interested in considering this please email jon.dolman@nhs.net and emma.symonds8@nhs.net as soon as possible to explore further. Applications must be in to NHS England by 4th December, so contact with Emma and Jon well before that is welcome. To be eligible individuals must demonstrate the following:

1. From an ethnic minority background
2. Working at band 6 – 8A or equivalent (with experience if at band 6)
3. Working in any NHS setting (primary care, acute, community, mental health, learning disability and social care nursing)
4. NMC registered
5. Mandatory training up to date
6. Evidence of continuing professional development
7. Should not have already completed the Mary Seacole, Rosalind Franklin or Elizabeth Garrett Anderson programmes
8. Have a history of demonstrable leadership and ambition
9. Have robust written, verbal and IT communication skills

• Did you know in the UK currently 0.5% of the population are considered problem gamblers and 7% of the population are negatively affected by gambling? This is over 5 million people across the UK as a whole, which is one in 12 people either directly or indirectly affected by gambling-related harms. Although gambling harms is often not a spoken about subject, people will present with domestic abuse, relationship breakdown, debt, mental health issues, housing problems, isolation, and suicidality.   Gamcare are hosting a free event 10am-12pm on 6th December 2023 to introduce you to the signs and risk factors of gambling harms and the process into treatment. There will be a keynote speaker on Domestic Abuse and her insights and thoughts about the linkage between Domestic Abuse and Gambling Harms. The event is for anyone in the workforce.
