SGPET/LMC EDUCATION NEWS/UPDATE BOARD 

• SGPET Levy  -  ICB finance have informed us that due to an error no SGPET levies were taken from practices in April and May, they will now collect 3 months levy payments in June, they have apologised for this inconvenience.

• Optimising Document Workflow Training Webinar - aimed at the core team (GP lead, management lead, all the non-clinical staff likely to be involved with coding). Thursday 20th July 13.00-15.30.

• Do you have current spare capacity (both physical space and educator capacity) to take on additional GP doctors in training? Could you benefit from additional funding to increase physical space for GP doctors in training? Having sufficient training numbers for the county is a key factor in sustaining our longer terms ambition for the GP workforce. As you may have heard from recent trainers’ meetings, the primary care school are short of places for our doctors in training in Somerset. If you do have spare capacity, please contact Penny.Bridges@SomersetFT.nhs.uk .

  Additionally, the ICB, Primary Care School and Somerset Training Hub have worked together and been awarded a small amount of targeted funding (via a Minor Improvement Grant) to create extra physical space in GP estates for doctors in training. If you think your practice could benefit from this, then please submit an expression of interest (EOI):

  -Be as creative as you want.

  -Ensure the EOI is no more than 300 words.

  -Email EOIs to somersetlmc.sth.office@nhs.net by 5pm on 7th July 2023.

  All EOIs will be reviewed by the Training Hub and Primary Care School. Those successful at this stage will then be contacted by the ICB primary care team to discuss next steps.  For all EOIs the Training Hub and Primary Care School will let you know whether you have been successful or not at this initial stage by Friday 14th July 2023.

• Are you passionate about Personalised Care and developing others? If you are experienced in using personalised conversation skills or would like to develop these skills and have aptitude for, or experience of training others, this is the right programme for you.  A small team will be facilitating modules 1-4 of the Personalised Care Institute (PCI) Personalised Coaching Conversations course starting in July 2023. This is part 1 (2 days) of the 4-day Health and Wellbeing Coach training as prescribed by the professional framework. This course is PCI accredited.

  The training is free to all NHS staff and SASP social prescribing partners working in Somerset. As well as being included as part of the national recommendations for health and wellbeing coaches, there is now also national recommendations for Care Coordinators, social prescribers as part of their competency. The course is also recommended for any staff interested in improving their skills around having person centred conversation about healthy behaviour change. Previously our courses have included a wide range of multiprofessionals.

• On Wednesday 5th July, BNSSG Training Hub will be delivering a FREE, face-to-face, learning and well-being event aimed at GP locums

• Funded First Contact Practitioner (FCP) courses -The Primary Care Academy have collated upcoming fully funded FCP courses for paramedics and other allied health professionals. Please click here for further details.

• Virtual MDT Clinical Supervision Programme  September 2023 Do you, or are you planning on offering, clinical supervision for a multi-professional team member of primary care? Clinical supervision is a requirement for our multi-professionals, where one senior person in the team becomes the go-to person for regular conversations around clinical cases with a multi-professional team member. The Primary Care Academy are holding a virtual two-session MDT Clinical Supervision Programme, on Thursday 19th September and Tuesday 26th September 2023 0900-1200. The programme introduces some of the roles and the skills they bring to the team. There will be practical steps of how to supervise clinical work, a focus on learning styles and communications tools which can be used.

  This programme aims to introduce some of the additional roles in primary care, including what skills they have to offer the primary care workforce by equipping Supervisors with the skills to be confident in clinical supervision of other health professionals in the Primary Care setting.
