SGPET/LMC EDUCATION NEWS/UPDATE BOARD
-
The SGPET programme for this year is drawing to a close but we still have a number of evening meetings and study days to attend. The next study day is the Diversity Study Day (19th June) . Experts from Somerset will be discussing how to support our diverse community – homeless patients, patients who misuse drugs and alcohol and asylum seekers. The learning disability team are going to talk about how to improve our care for people with learning disability and important lessons to be learnt. They are also going to be covering reasonable adjustments and giving some guidance on how we can help with equality of access. It has only just crossed my radar that we should be working towards the contractual equality of access digital record (I'm sure you're all more up to date than I am!)
The Cancer and Palliative Care Study Day (3 July) will have presentations on upper GI cancers particularly focusing on diagnosis of pancreatic cancer which we would all agree is particularly hard to identify early. The second half of the morning will focus on paediatric cancers again looking at early diagnosis from case examples. In the afternoon the palliative care team will be introducing the new TEP as well as the practicalities of symptom control and medication optimisation across common palliative care scenarios.
The local evening meetings are the perfect blend of discussion and gaining knowledge so check out the SGPET website for details.
Best wishes Dr Ian Boyland (SGPET Vice Chair)

EXTERNAL EVENTS/RESOURCES
- (SPH) Spiromtery Study Day 24th June - To fulfill the practical and hands on elements of the study day on the 24th of June it is very important that we have a reasonable number of sets of equipment for those attending to use. This is always better if it is the kit that people have or are going to use in their practice going forwards. Therefore, please can you arrange to bring a spirometry machine, a 3 litre syringe, anti-bacterial/anti-viral mouthpieces and a laptop with the correct software downloaded for the spirometry machine being used.
There is the option to share these in small groups as understandably not everyone will be able to have their own but please do make every effort to bring yours with you so that everyone can gain the most benefit from the training day. We would be grateful if you could let us know if this causes any problems via wendy.grey4@nhs.net
- Are you a PCN manager/clincal director, working in a GP surgery, a paramedic, healthcare policy maker and commissioner, or someone interested in healthcare workforce optimisation, then the following could be for you. The READY Paramedics study team invite you to the launch event of a new ‘Implementation Toolkit’ to be held at Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference Centre, Birmingham on Thursday 27 June 2024 from 10:00-15:00. If you’re a paramedic Click here for more details.
- South of England universities have collaborated to create a Practice Education Training workspace on the Future NHS platform. The workspace aims to provide resources for Practice Educators, as well as helping developing networks. Educators are able access content by contacting Alex Dunford ( adunford@bournemouth.ac.uk ). The workspace includes a member's area with training opportunities, networks, communities of practice, and resources to support learners in practice. For more information please see this link.
